VoiceTAP (what’s VoiceTAP?) experts for the call on Shri Ram College of Commerce were Arpana Chaturvedi (currently a first year MBA student) and Lohit Agarwal (currently an intern at Ernst & Young). Both of them studied B. Com. at SRCC and have now graduated from there. Listen to what they have to say about their alma mater.

Basic Information
Shri Ram College of Commerce, more commonly referred to as SRCC, is considered to be the premier institute in India for B. Com. (Hons) and BA Eco (Hons) courses. Those are the only courses that the college has at the undergraduate level, but it’s well-known for that itself. There are post graduate courses in a few subjects, but we won’t go into that now.
SRCC is a North Campus college situated in Guru Tegh Bahadur Marg, North Delhi. Their official website is www.srcc.edu and they can be reached on phone at 011-27667905, 27666519. A history of the college is available here. Approximately 384 seats are available for B. Com. (Hons), and 94 seats for BA Eco (Hons). Out of these a majority of the seats are bagged by outstation candidates.
Entry Requirements
Admission cutoffs at SRCC are often termed as ‘ridiculously’ high. Last year for instance the cutoff was around 94.75%. Best of four subjects from a candidate’s class 12th Board marks are considered – out of which English and Maths are subjects have to be included when you’re mentioning your four subjects. Students from science and arts stream are in tough luck, because for them the cutoff is 1% higher than what it is for commerce stream candidates.
Reserved Category candidates (SC / ST / OBC etc): Candidates from the reserved category need a separate form to apply, not the common DU admission form. Information regarding this would be available at the college itself. There is a relaxation of cutoff percentage for reserved category candidates; for instance, OBC candidates get a 10% relaxation on the cutoff percentage. This step was taken because many seats in OBC category were going empty.
Sports Quota: 20 seats are reserved in SRCC for admission through sports quota. Trials are held and candidates are admitted on the basis of their performance. Certificates / achievements in sports for the past few years are also considered. Again, a separate form needs to be taken from the college itself for admission in the category.
Transfers: Transfer of a student to second year / any other semester is not allowed at SRCC.
Financial support / scholarships: Tuition fees (excluding hostel) are less than Rs 10000 per annum. However for students facing financial hardship and / or meritorious students, there are various scholarships on offer at SRCC.
Infrastructure
Infrastructure at SRCC is top-notch. All classrooms / lecture halls are air-conditioned and outfitted with LCD projectors, screens etc. A 300-seater library provides books and journals to students, along with being one of the first libraries in Delhi University to provide Wi-Fi access. SRCC’s auditorium has a capacity of seating 750 persons, and a modern seminar room is also available. On-campus bank, stationery store, health centre et al are also present. (A significant amount of the funding for all this was provided by SRCC alumni.)
Starting from 2009, all teaching in classrooms will be done with the aid of computers. Students will be expected to have their own laptops – if they don’t have one then it will be provided at subsidised cost and / or with financing options. SRCC aims to make it is whole campus completely Wi-Fi enabled. This is in addition to the computer centres to provide access to the Internet that it already has.
SRCC’s placement cell has a track record of providing guidance and getting students placed at major Indian and multinational companies.
Sports: SRCC is the only North Campus college to have a swimming pool (open during summers only). Facilities are available for badminton, cricket, tennis, table tennis, gym, etc. Further, sports facilities are being upgraded because SRCC is a venue for some events (such as rugby and wrestling) to be held in the 2010 Commonwealth Games Delhi.
Hostel: The colleges provides on-campus hostel facility for both boys and girls (but with a greater number of seats available for boys). Catering, laundry etc are also provided. In case a student doesn’t get a place in the college hostel then s/he can look for paying guest accommodation which is available in the North Campus area.
Cultural / Extra-Curricular Activities
Contrary to what you’d expect after putting in a bunch of ~400 95%+ students in the same place, SRCC students do manage to have fun. There are different societies for dramatics, elocution, Koshish (a social service body), choreography, commerce, economics, maths, computers, debating etc. SRCC also organizes a national lectures series which has eminent personalities attending the event.
Crossroads is SRCC’s annual fest. Spread over four days, various cultural events are held, including music concerts where Indian rock bands such as Parikrama performed.

Politics: National parties such as NSUI and ABVP are not allowed to field external candidates for college student union elections; only SRCC’s own student can participate in elections for SRCC student union. Canvassing for DU student union elections do take place though.
Famous Alumni
Arun Jaitley (BJP spokesperson), Vijay Goel (BJP politician), Gulshan Grover (actor), Rajat Sharma (founder of India TV), Rakeysh Mehra (director of films such as Rang De Basanti and Delhi-6)…to name a few.

i got 95.5 percent in best four subjects,,,i want to know whether i would b able to get admission in eco(h) in s.r.c.c.
or there any fair chances to get admission in b.com(h) in s.r.c.c.
@ Adiya,
If you are a commercee, you have a chance at Eco(H) in SRCC and are almost sure for B.Com.
thanks subhashish
ya i m from commerce
and i think u have cleared for st. stephens interview
so wat r your planning s.r.c.c. or st. stephens
@ Aditya,
The ST. Stephens results are not out. But if I have a choice, I’d go for St. Stephens rather than SRCC.
i want to ask that if i got my name in eco(h) cut off list of hansraj not in s.r.c.c. but if i cleared for b.com(h) from s.r.c.c.
what should i prefer b.com(h) from s.r.c.c. or eco(h) from hansraj
@ Aditya,
See, my brother said to a friend of mine that the course should be the first priority. Weigh the pros and cons, decide what EXACTLY you want (placements or faculty or ECA) and then make a choice that will satisfy YOU.
Hey! I wonder if anyone can help me… I applied to SRCC through the DU common form…will that pose as a problem? I did not realize SRCC had their own form!!!! I’m not in the OBC category…and that is the only part specified in this article. SRCC is my top choice, and I have a BFS of 98%. I also met the cut off at St. Stephens, but the interview was quite hard, and I heard rumors that out of the 60 seats for Eco (H), only 15 were for the general category! Does anyone know anything about this?
Relax! You do not need to panic. Except St. Stephens & JMC, all other colleges accept DU’s common form, even though they have their own forms as well. So if you have applied through the common form, just sit back and relax, and wait for 25th.
As far as your concern about number of seats is concerned, I am not too sure about this one. But if your preference is Economics (hons.) and you do get through St. Stephens, I would advice you take up Stephen’s, but if B.Com (hons.) is your choice, then SRCC is the way to go.
Take care & all the best!
@ Megha,
Yes, only 20 seats out of the 50 for Eco (H) at Stephens are for the general category.
And the common form will not pose a problem.
hi..Can anybody help me with the ranking of DU Colleges..correct me if i m wrong..SRCC,LSR,Hansraj,Jesus &Mary,Hindu..
@ Devika,
The rankings depend a lot on your preference (ECA, placements, faculty etc.), but yes, if you put St. Stephens and Venkateswara near the top and middle of your list, you list broadly holds for Eco(H).
thank u sir.can u specify d list for B.Com(H) as well..also where do u exactly place Venkateshwara..i have scored 95.25%(best four)..do u think i will qualify for SRCC..
@ Devika,
Venkateswara could be placed fourth along with Hansraj for Eco(H), just that it is in the South Campus.
i am Abishek from kolkata …aiming to get into SRCC for b.com (hons)..
i scored a 95.75%( best of 4) in my ISC this year.
do i stand a chance?
and do any one has an idea about the cut off at srcc this year?
please notify …
thanks in advance
Okay Abhishek! I understand your anxiety pangs, I have been through same, but I think we really need to relax a bit here. You have done your bit. Scored your marks and filled up the forms. Lets wait for just a day more. The cut-offs would be out tomorrow. And it really wouldn’t matter then what you, I or others speculate about the cut-offs!
Relax
and all the best!
~N
PS: You should make it!
congrats subhashish for selection in st. stephens admission list
I have scored 94.5 in BFS and from Science stream. What are my chances for ECo Honours from SRRC, LSR
i have scored 96.25% in CBSE class 12th, i m from commerce stream, i m really confused whethr i should opt for eco hons or B.Com hons.???
@ Nikhar,
See, there is no right and wrong answer to your question … go check the course content and make your decision …. both are equally good courses …
does anyone know about the srcc cut-offs yet???
im dying to know since such a long time…im currently in 12th, comm.
i have qualified for both eco hon. and b.com. hon.
can any one tell me which would b best . i m still confused???????
as cut off of b.com. (hon.) is more than that for eco. hon.
in s.r.c.c. obviously
I scored 91.25% as my best of four subjects. I am a science student and did not have economics as my fifth subject.. i had computer science. i applied to srcc for eco (H). the relaxation for science students for eco (H) at srcc is 2% i think n for people without eco in XII is 2%… so would i get a relaxation of 4% overall or only 2%?
the cutoff is 96.5%… but the range is 93.5-96.5%.. so if i get 4% relaxation, my %age would be 95.25%… please reply asap… thanks
i got 95.5 percent and have qualified for b.com.(hon) in s.r.c.c. but not for eco hon.
but i qualified for both from hansraj
wat should i do take b.com. hon. from s.r.c.c. or eco hon. from hansraj
its a terrific situation please guide me
@ Reena
Go for BCom Hons from SRCC. SRCC has a different brand name altogether, and you will still be able to enjoy the Hansraj college life should you want to.
i have made it to B.Com honours in SRCC but i was more interested in pursuing Economics hons from SRCC bt i missed the cut off by .25%, i scored 96.25 BFS …….Can i expect second cut off list to come for eco hns in SRCC????
thanks voicetap team for guiding me
i m going for b.com hon.from s.r.c.c.
@ Nikhar,
You cannot rely on a second list, so you should not rely on that … better take admission in the course that you want in your preferred college.
@ Sh Bh,
People with Economics do not get ANY advantage in SRCC (I am science with economics myself). So, you get a plus 2 advantage.
@ Aditya,
Depends on your preferences completely. Both are great courses with great placements.
can we do c.a with b.com. hon. in s.r.c.c.
wat should i do after b.com. hon.
@Reena
May we humbly suggest that you enjoy your college years first. You dont need to do a CA with BCom hons from SRCC – there are lots of options post that.
Relax – and enjoy SRCC.
Voicetap team
Hello,
I am not sure I am computing my percentage correctly. I am in Chennai. Can someone tell me if SRCC has a list of names of eligible candidates for the B.A.Economics programme? My roll number was 343. Thanks .Jayadev Sreekanth
@ Jayadev,
No, SRCC has not put up a list of candidates for B.A. Economics (hons). I personally went there and they said “Just come to the college if you clear the cut-off”
“You dont need to do a CA with BCom hons from SRCC ” Does this imply that just B.Com. from SRCC is good enough?
I’ve scored 95 in BFS.. Couldn’t make it to SRCC for Bcom H in the 1st list.. Missed it by a mark..
what are the chances of a 2nd list coming out ?
SRCC was my dream since two years.. And I am completely shattered !
Please reply ASAP!
AAkash
Hopefully you will get through the second list.
Will there be a 2nd list at all ? What are the chances ?
Akash you are through in SRCC.
Yes ! The DREAM has finally come true… Im soooooooo happy !
hi, my sisters (twins) had appeared for boards this year, and scored 82.5 and 76.5 in best 4. They are from science branch and I am really confused to what these relaxations indicate +2% to +4% or -2 to -3%. Coming straight to the point, they have secured a seat in B.Sc. (home science) course from the first list but they want to pursue English (honours). Kindly guide to which colleges depending on the 2nd cut off addm is available.. and what will be the final percentage for them, say if cut off is at 82 then we should subtract for science or add??
Regards
I m getting admissions both in hindu and hansraj.
which college should i opt??
plz mention the reason
I have already got admission in HAnsraj..B.Com(H)..but d third list makes me eligible for LSR..(same course)..what to do..reply
LSR is a brand name in DU and attracts better pay packages than Hansraj and often produces more university topper.
So, unless distance is not an issue with you, you should go for LSR.
While I tend to agree with Subhashish on the brand bit – I dont necessarily agree that pay packets should be your deciding factor at this stage.
Look at it in the overall perspective – LSR is a great college, but is a womens only college. Nothing wrong with that – except that you will not make the type of friends that you will in Hansraj. The exposure levels at the two colleges are different – to say the least. With Hansraj – you will have friends from stephens, hindu, hansraj, ramjas and every other college there. With LSR – it would be LSR only.
My fundamental belief is that in life – while you have to look out for your future, you shouldn’t necessarily forget about today just worrying about tomorrow. Given the brand name (almost similar), the clear advantages of ‘real college life’ that Hansraj affords and the final outlook – a degree from DU, I would recommend Hansraj.
My $0.02.
Mrigank
Disclaimer: The views I expressed were those of my elder brother, who has done his Economics (hons) from DU and was the topper from Venkateswara. He said LSR is way too big a brand as compared to Hansraj and he said his friends at LSR have received better pay packages as compared to people from Hansraj.
thank u sir…
does SRCC have entrance tests or interviews for admission to B.Com or Eco honours courses? how much weightage do they give to the class 12 school marksheet and class 10 board marksheet?
